How does being in touch with our impermanence change our lives?
What every single person on this planet has in common is the impermanence of our lives. We all know that we’re mortal beings, but what does that mean in our ever-distracted worlds? As much as we know this, how much do we really embody it? Research has shown that if we were really in touch with this inevitable fact, we would be living much differently. This may not be the case for everyone, but this is something that I personally subscribe to, experienced myself and have witnessed in others. Imagine a world where all of us were more conscious of how we spent our time and how we experienced our lives by being in touch with our impermanence. What would that world look, feel and be like?
Ancient spiritual texts have stated the many benefits of befriending death and even being in touch with our own mortality. In the modern Western world studies have found that being in touch with our morality and death itself can greatly improve our lives.
Some of those benefits include:
- Positively changing our habits and lifestyles
- Increased compassion, empathy and tolerance towards others
- Clarity in our priorities and values
- Deeper appreciation for being alive and life itself
- Greater desire to help others and make positive contributions
The list goes on as there’s many layers to this work. Given the world we live in where we’re so distracted, disconnected, and unsure about the future, BACII’s YU offering is designed to break through our day to day in order to get deep with ourselves. This offering is about reflecting on our own beliefs and understanding of death, while aligning ourselves with what matters most to us with the unguaranteed time that we do have.
Past YU participants have experienced:
- More fearlessness in their personal lives
- Less anxiety about the topic of death
- Improved, overall lightness in their day to day
- More joy, curiosity, creativity, and inspired living
- Refreshed and renewed sense of purpose
- New understandings and perspectives on death
- Quitting toxic jobs
- Getting new tattoos inspired by this experience
How could reflecting on impermanence benefit your life? Feel free to share your responses, thoughts, questions or comments with me as I’d love to hear back from you.
